Ovral L Contraceptive for Women- Most Trustable Birth Control Method

Women can prevent pregnancy with Ovral L pill, which is a contraceptive medication, composed of progestin and estrogen (in low doses). It is also utilized to treat menstrual dysfunction. The remedy consists of 'Ethinyl Estradiol', an estrogen in 0.030mg strength and Levonorgestrel, a synthetic progestin in 0.150mg power. The product is marketed and manufactured by of Pfizer Pharmaceuticals Ltd (Wyeth division), presented in medicinal pack of 21 tablets or 28 tablets. The latter pack has 21 pills of active hormone, while the remaining 7 are placebo tablets (non-hormonal components). The hormonal pills are white in color, while the inactive come in pink shade.

What is the Pharmacology/Working of Birth Control Tablets?

The woman’s brain produces two hormones namely, LH (bursts ovary in mid cycle in releasing eggs for fertilization) and FSH (thickens womb lining to receive zygote). Synthetic estrogen and progestin from contraceptive medicine affect blood stream. The mechanism blocks production of gonadotrophic hormones (LH and FSH), which deters ovulation. Uterine lining is ripened to prevent egg implantation, if any. The cervical mucus is thinned in mid cycle by LH. But, females taking Ovral L pills face thickening of cervical mucus that disables sperm moving into womb.
This, the tablet reduces chances of active sperms fertilizing eggs. When the medication course is continued for 21 days and then stopped, endometrium womb lining becomes soggy, shedding itself so that bleeding occurs, termed as ‘withdrawal bleeding’. The birth control measure has a high efficacy rate in preventing pregnancy on the above mentioned activity in female’s body. It may fail in only 1 or 2 of 100 women, annually.

Dosage Instructions- Regular Intake, Missed Dose Effects

Females beginning with birth control pills newly are recommended to start the course on their first day of menstrual cycle. Those who are continuing the previous dose should commence the course again in 7 days from the last active tablet consumed, or after the intake of last inert tablet, despite of any withdrawal bleeding. The active medicines are taken at the same time of the day, everyday with water, usually during early morning or at bedtime.
Missing Ovral dose can reduce its efficacy. In such scenario, the hormone level desired to prevent pregnancy falls in blood stream, resulting in failed action of the medicine. If a tablet is missed, take it soon, ideally in 12 hours, even though it means consuming two tablets at the same duration in a day or the next. If two or more tablets are missed, the female must consume two tablets for consecutive two days after the day the dose was missed. She should continue the rest of the dose as usual.

What is Ovral L Side Effects?

The side effects of contraceptive medicine are diarrhea, nausea, headache, mood swings, appetite loss, fatigue, psychological irritation. The more severe complications that affects rarely are increased risk to cancer of breast/cervix/liver, gall stones, jaundice, inflammation in gall bladder and pancreas and rise in bad cholesterol for blood vessels. Such consequences impact if overdose is taken or dosage restrictions are not maintained. Women should not use Ovral L with alcohol or interacting medicines to prevent side effects.
